How the marking kit works

The permanent marking kit permanently marks the frame of your bike with your unique BikeRegister ID. 

This DIY kit chemically etches the coating of your bike frame with a visible and permanent blue mark, leaving a neat unique mark which does not affect the frame's integrity. 

Each kit marks one bike. 

Any bike with a painted or lacquered finish can be marked with the standard plastic marking compound. However, if your bike frame is uncoated carbon fibre, uncoated aluminium or uncoated titanium, then we recommend using our Membership Plus Kit.

The marking compound is dark blue in colour and may be difficult to see on dark-coloured frames such as navy or black. However, the compound also contains a UV element so the Police can see the marking under a UV light. The warning label in the kit will provide a visible deterrent even if the mark itself is not visible.

What is the BikeRegister? 

The BikeRegister is the UK's national, police-approved, bicycle marking registration system.

The visible tamper-resistant label is a deterrent to bike thieves. If you do unfortunately experience a bike theft, every police force in the UK uses the BikeRegister database to search for stolen and recovered bikes. This can hugely improve your chances of recovering your bike. 

The BikeRegister Marking Kit contains:

• Dark blue marking compound containing a UV element which is visible under UV light. 
• Lifetime registration to the BikeRegister National Database
• Electronic logbook issued as proof of ownership
