National Route 10 of the National Cycle Network travels through the beautiful Kielder Forest in Northumberland.
Kielder Forest is a great place to explore, with miles of walking, cycling and horse-riding routes. A haven for wildlife enthusiasts, with as much as 50% of England's native red squirrel population living there. Keen for an evening cycle? It's the perfect place to stargaze too!

2. Whinlatter Forest Park
Whinlatter Forest Park is home to stunning views, great walks, mountain biking and adventure for all the family.
National Route 71 travels through this mountainous forest, set deep within the dramatic and unique landscape of the Lake District. There's lots of wildlife to spot, tree-top walks, and the longest purpose-built mountain bike trails in the Lake District - plenty to explore once you arrive!

3. Galloway Forest Park
National Route 7 winds through Galloway Forest Park. Explore the rolling Galloway glens and discover picturesque forest trails, three visitor centres, loch and mountain views.
Just off National Route 7 is also Raiders' Road forest drive, a 10-mile route that's open to vehicles between April-October. It's open to cyclists, walkers and horse-riders all year round, so head there from November onwards for a quiet, traffic-free 10 miles and take in the views along the way.

4. Leigh Woods
National Route 41 passes very close to Leigh Woods which has some fantastic mountain bike trails and wildlife.
It's a great place to take the whole family. It's traffic-free from Bristol, and the paths within the forest are family-friendly, catering to riders of all abilities. Looking for something more challenging? A purpose-built biking trail also weaves its way through Leigh Woods.

5. Afan Forest Park
National Route 887 takes you to Afan Forest Park. Carved out the same mountains that the area's coal mining community once thrived on, the forest is the perfect place for cycling, walking and wildlife spotting.
It's earned a reputation for being one of the best purpose-built mountain bike centres in the world. Keen to give it a go? You can rent mountain bikes while there and follow one of their world-class mountain biking trails through the forest.
Not for you? Visit the mining museum or refuel and relax with a warm drink from the café and soak up the panoramic forest views.

6. Wyre Forest
National Route 45 takes you to Wyre Forest, the largest woodland National Nature Reserve in the country. Situated to the west of Birmingham, there's plenty of ways to explore this forest -with a variety of mountain biking, walking, running and horse trails.
It's one for all the family too, with children's play areas, a GoApe! course and thankfully, a cafe! Wrap up for the autumnal weather and make a day of it!

7. The Forest Way
The Forest Way, National Route 21, is a lovely 10-mile path linking along a disused railway embankment. It's flat and traffic-free, making it the perfect day out for less-experienced cyclists and families, or just for a leisurely, enjoyable ride.
This tree-lined path takes you through the heart of the East Sussex countryside, through small fields and farms among wooded, rolling hills. The route also passes the village of Hartfield which was the setting for the much-loved AA Milne tale Winnie the Pooh.
There's seats and picnic benches along the way, take your time and stop for a flask of tea to warm you up, or a jar of honey!

You'll weave through attractive areas of heathland and pine woodland and en-route, and there's The Old Station Tea Rooms in Holmsley, an area which was the site of one of 12 makeshift airfields that played a vital role in the D-Day landings - a cycle and a history lesson all in one.
